NC Foreclosures Up 41.5% from 2009
Foreclosures skyrocketed in North Carolina in 2010, up 41.5% from the prior year. Though this is a huge increase, North Carolina is still in the bottom half of states in foreclosure rate with one in every 105 households facing foreclosure. South Carolina was in the top half of the nation with one in 62 homes facing foreclosure, making it the 16th state with the highest foreclosure rates.
Mecklenburg and Union Counties in North Carolina had the highest foreclosure rates in the state with one in 34 housing units in foreclosure. Nationwide, the average is one home in every 45 homes being foreclosed on.

December was an interesting month relative to the last few years. Over the last couple of years, inventory has increased in December when comparing to November. This December however, the inventory of homes to sell actually decreased. This was primarily due to a substantial homes being sold in December in comparison to November. In the last two years, the number of sold homes actually declined relative to the prior November, whereas this December followed the same trend as 2006 and 2007 where December sales outpaced November’s. Hopefully this is a good sign of things to come in 2011!
